The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 And We sent against them a howling wind in a Day of continuous of ill fortune 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
