Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness. 24 Has the [Divine] message been revealed to him alone of all of us? No, he is a boastful liar." 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 We are sending the she-camel to them to test them. So watch them and be patient. 27 And tell them that the water [of the well] is to be divided between them, and that each one should drink in turn." 28 But they called their companion, so he took (the sword) and slew (her). 29 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 32 The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 As grace from Us. Thus We reward him who giveth thanks. 35 Lot warned them of Our punishment, but they disputed the warnings -- 36 And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 So taste My chastisement and My warning. 39 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 40
