Thamud denied the warning 23 they said, "Are we to follow a man from amongst ourselves? We would surely then fall into error and madness. 24 Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar." 25 (We told Our Messenger): “Tomorrow they shall know who is the insolent liar. 26 We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience. 27 Tell them that the water is to be divided between them, a drink each for them in turn' 28 But they called their companion who took a sword and hamstrung her. 29 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 30 Lo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold. 31 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition: is there then any one who would be admonished. 32 Lot's people also gave the lie to the warnings, 33 We sent down upon them a violent sandstorm (which destroyed them all) except for the family of Lot, whom We saved in the early morning by Our favor. 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. 36 And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 37 Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them: 38 "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" 39 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 40
