The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Merciful One 1 Taught the Qur'an, 2 He created man, 3 Taught him the mode of expression. 4 The sun and the moon to a reckoning. 5 And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate. 6 And the heaven, He raised it high, and He made the balance 7 In order that you may not transgress (due) balance. 8 So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance. 9 And the earth, He has set it for living creatures; 10 Therein is fruit and palms having sheathed clusters, 11 and grain growing tall on its stalks, and sweet-smelling plants. 12 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 13 He created man of clay like, unto pottery. 14 And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke: 15 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 16 (He is) the Lord of the two easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter). 17 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 18 He released the two seas, meeting [side by side]; 19 [yet] between them is a barrier which they may not transgress. 20 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -- 21 Pearls and corals come from both. 22 Which favors of your Lord will you both belie? 23 His are the ships displayed upon the sea, like banners. 24 Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie? 25
