The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Merciful 1 Hath taught the Qur'an. 2 He created man. 3 And taught him to express clearly. 4 The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation, 5 the stars and the trees bend in prostration. 6 And the heaven! He hath elevated it, and He hath set the balance. 7 That ye should not trespass in respect of the balance. 8 Give just weight and do not skimp the scales. 9 And the earth! He hath lain it out for the creatures. 10 There are fruits of all kinds on it, and date-palms with their clusters sheathed, 11 and grain growing tall on its stalks, and sweet-smelling plants. 12 Which of the bounties of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 13 He has created man out of sounding clay, like pottery, 14 and jinn from the many colored flames of fire. 15 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 16 Lord of the two Easts, Lord of the two Wests. 17 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 18 He has set flowing two seas that appear to meet. 19 Between them is a barrier which they cannot pass. 20 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? 21 There come forth from them pearls, both large and small. 22 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 23 His are the ships, towering on the sea like mountains. 24 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 25
