The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a few from later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 facing one another. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 and raised couches 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
