The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the right. 38
