The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
