The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In gardens of delight; 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
