The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and shade extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
