The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a host of the ancients 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
