The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
