The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
