The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
