The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
