The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
