The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 Gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
