The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
