The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
