The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And couches raised up. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
