The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and serried acacias, 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
