The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
