The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
