The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And couches raised up. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
