The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And spreading shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
