The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
96 verses, revealed in Mecca after T H (Taa Haa) before The Poets (Alshu'araa')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And extended shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
