The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
