The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and continuous shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And raised couches; 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
