The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
