The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for those on the Right, 38
