The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Who will be honoured 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and shade extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
