The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
