The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a few from later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
