a multitude of the ancients, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 "We are ruined, 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
