A company of the former peoples 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
