A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
