a good many of olden times, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
