A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 "We are ruined, 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
