a large group of the earlier people 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
