a good many of olden times, 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
