A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
