A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 "We are ruined, 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
