These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
