A multitude of those of old 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 “They will all be gathered together on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
