A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
