A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 and a good many of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
