A throng of the ancients 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
