Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A company of the former peoples 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
