Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The indubitable event! 1 What is the Inevitable Reality? 2 What do you comprehend by the concrete reality? 3 THE LIE gave [the tribes of] Thamud and 'Ad to [all tidings of] that sudden calamity! 4 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the awful cry! 5 as for Aad, they were destroyed by a howling, violent wind 6 which He willed against them for seven nights and eight days without cease, so that in the end thou couldst see those people laid low [in death,] as though they were so many [uprooted] trunks of hollow palm trees: 7 Then do you see of them any remains? 8 And Fir'awn and those before him and the overturned cities committed sin. 9 and rebelled against their Lord's Messenger. So He took them with a stern taking. 10 But We bore you away in the Ark, when the waters rose high, 11 that We might make it a reminder for you and for heeding ears to hold. 12 Then when the Horn is blown with one blast 13 And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,- 14 on that Day the Great Event will come to pass. 15 And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail. 16 And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them. 17 That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed. 18 So whoever is given his book in his right hand he will say, “Take, read my account!” 19 Surely I knew that I shall meet my account. 20 Then he shall find himself in a life of bliss; 21 In high empyrean 22 The fruit clusters of which are hanging down. 23 “Eat and drink with pleasure the reward of what you sent ahead, in the past days.” 24 But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "I wish that I had not been given my Record! 25 “And had never come to know my account!” 26 “Alas, if only it had been just death.” 27 My wealth has not availed me, 28 “All my power has vanished.” 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 then throw them into hell to be heated up therein. 31 “Then bind him inside a chain which is seventy arm-lengths.” 32 He did not believe in God the supreme, 33 Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor. 34 and so, no friend has here today, 35 Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds; 36 None shall eat it but the sinners. 37
