The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and all those on earth. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 Dragging by the head, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 for such as ask [for help] and such as are deprived [of what is good in life]; 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 and guard their private parts 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
